Electrical (Permanent Position)
Mechanical, Structural or Constructive (12 month Fixed Term)
Our estimating team has forecast workflow warranting increased resources. If you are an experienced Estimator or Tradesperson with an aptitude for estimating and contracts, we have two roles that provide potential for career development.
An Electrical Estimator with knowledge and expertise in electrical systems and components is required on a permanent on-going basis.
An engineering Estimator with experience in the Mechanical, Structural or Constructive trades is required on a temporary 12-month fixed term employment contract to assist with peak work associated with an upgrade project.
As an Estimator you will use your technical knowledge to assess prospective work, accurately determine labour, materials and resourcing requirements, and proactively liaise with customers to develop close working relationships.
Previous experience in a marine environment would be advantageous. You will have a positive outlook, computer literacy in MS Word and Excel, as well as being technically proficient.

Technical Author
Here’s an exciting opportunity to develop your engineering and writing career in the design, creation and modification of technical publications for the operation and maintenance Navy and Commercial vessels.
You will join a team of experienced Technical Authors in the production of technical documentation using the appropriate software and to the required specification or customer requirements. The ability to work using your own initiative to achieve the desired deliverables within the agreed budget and timescale is essential. You will work in close liaison with other members of the team, interpreting drawings and technical data to produce material that is safe, viable and compliant.
You will understand and be experienced in working to formal documentation specifications and will be competent and confident in using software packages such as Adobe Framemaker or MS Word. You will be able to draw on your experience to produce quality work from limited sources in a timely manner, utilising resources such as the internet and supplier information.
Ideally you will have a mechanical/electrical engineering background preferably on Marine or Naval projects and some experience of technical writing.

Supportability Engineer(s)
As one of New Zealand’s largest mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering facilities, VT Fitzroy provides a unique work environment in managing the Devonport dry dock facility on behalf of Navy.
VT Fitzroy (VTF) is growing its Engineering Support Team and has a number of vacancies for ILS Engineers. You will join a small team of engineers responsible for minimising the cost of ownership of major defence assets. This is achieved through the application of engineering techniques aimed at influencing the design to improve supportability by increasing reliability and reducing maintenance. In addition, you will be involved in the identification and production of the necessary support deliverables. You will also be responsible for the development and delivery of a number of contracts providing in-service support.
An engineering background is essential, gained in either a commercial or defence environment. Knowledge of Integrated Logistic Support in accordance with either Mil Std 1388 or Defence Standard 00-60 is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.
The positions are based in Devonport, Auckland; salary will be commensurate with skills and experience.

Team Administrator
Calibration Laboratory
If you are an Administrator that enjoys an opportunity to demonstrate initiative with a mandate to improve, develop and maintain the team’s systems and operational processes our Calibration Laboratory needs you.
This role encompasses a variety of administrative tasks including database management, sourcing and collating information and equipment to assist the Technicians carry out their activities, and other general office support functions. You will be a key interface between the laboratory and it’s and visitors, which typically include NZ Defence and commercial customers.
If you have a commitment to customer service and are able to demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail through your previous work experience in similar roles, this is the job for you. Key board skills with computer literacy in MS Word and Excel are essential.

Design Draughtsperson, Communications
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager and working as part of a small team of design and draughting specialists, this role will provide opportunity for exposure to various communication design jobs servicing the marine industry.
Key tasks include undertaking technical investigations, preparation of reports, design and draughting work with an emphasis on communications and particularly wideband technology, and the provision of advice to customers.
The successful applicant will be experienced in communication design and draughting, with tertiary qualifications to Diploma level or equivalent. Knowledge of marine engineering would be advantageous.

Marine Project Engineer
An opportunity has arisen for a Project Engineer to assist in development of commercial ship repair, marine and general engineering work for the company.
This role will involve liaising with customer and VTF engineers as well as Classification Societies to maximize the technical quality and completeness of tenders. A key aspect will be to visit prospective vessels and repair projects to assess, and where possible develop work scope to ensure the best possible work specification is available to both VTF and to the customer. Assistance with coordination and review of tender documents and repair timelines will also be involved.
The position will ideally suit a creative thinker with comprehensive marine engineering experience and with a background in ship repair or in a sea-going maintenance capacity, who can apply this to analysis of ship repair and maintenance requirements. A key requirement will be to accurately assess and document engineering and repair requirements and where possible to assist the customer and VTF teams with repair and engineering solutions.
VTF service a wide range of vessels including Commercial Ships, Private Yachts and NZ and Offshore Naval Vessels, therefore vessel visits may be at New Zealand or International Ports.
The successful applicant will be tertiary qualified in an engineering discipline with prior experience in ship repair, ship building or marine engineering. They will be interested in meeting people, enjoy building interpersonal relations and have strong written and verbal communication skills. They will be computer literate with MS Office.
