The Industrial Coatings, Boat Building and Shipwright Unit, consists of tradesmen with experience and expertise in:
- surface coating and painting
- hull repair, outfitting & maintenance
- piping and compartment insulation
- marine and motor trimming
- removal and replacement of floor coverings
- fibre glass hull repair.
- marine upholstery and trimming.
Although principally marine oriented, the Industrial Coatings and Shipwrights Unit has the capability to undertake related tasks at Power Stations, Oil Refineries, Timber Processing Plants and Equipment Assembly Plants. The Unit is able to work outside the Auckland area and can supplement local staff or act as the prime contractor for 'turn key' projects. A wide range of specialist tools and equipment is held, including:
- air and airless spray
- spray booths
- drying ovens
- sign writing (vinyl)
- vacuum blasting
- Grit blasting
- water blasting
- steam cleaning
- full range of joinery and machine tools
- full range of marine/motor trim equipment

The unit is capable of providing maintenance to ships and shore based facilities.
